Pioneering Story: Hope Klang

Hope Klang church is a satellite church of Hope Kuala Lumpur, located in the city of Klang, Malaysia. This city has a population of about a million people. The church was birthed as a result of seeing the need to reach out to areas which are located more than 50 kilometres away from the mother church. When this idea of planting satellite churches was shared by the leadership of Hope Kuala Lumpur in 2013; Kok Mun and his wife, Melissa responded to the call as they felt that God is prompting them to step out for church planting. The couple launched out in 2014 and started the ministry by leading an existing working adult life group in Klang that consisted of around 10 people.

It has been a challenging journey. However, the Lord is faithful and started adding people from young families and university students. We witnessed lost sheep coming back to the fold and their lives being transformed by the Word of God and the power of the Holy Spirit. There are also people accepting Jesus as Lord and Saviour. Among them is a young mother who faced marital problems. She came to know the Lord and experienced the power of the Holy Spirit. She experienced life transformation and manage to salvage her marriage by God’s grace and strength.

In March 2017, the first Sunday Service was launched at a shop lot in Taman Bayu Tinggi, Klang. To date, we have around 30 people worshipping together every Sunday morning. Hope Klang church has a unique setting where the congregation comprises of natives and Chinese brothers and sisters. They relate to each other as a closely knitted spiritual family without any cultural barriers. There are three life groups in the church i.e. young family, young adults/students and working adult life groups that gather every week to fellowship and learn the Word of God. We are praying that more disciples will arise in the church to advance God’s kingdom in Klang. We pray that God will enable us to be His effective ambassadors to the people in Klang and the church will break 50 by the end of 2020.
