As part of the Hope International Ministries family, we all share the mission to fulfil the Great Commission. Some of us may be involved in missions work to the far and unreached, but missions doesn’t necessarily mean going far. Acts 1:8 calls for witnesses all around us, starting from the communities we are part of, our towns, cities and nations.
With this directive, Hope Kuching embarked on the Borneo Odyssey 4.0 (BO4.0), a transformative mission that brought together over 200 brothers and sisters from diverse congregations (English, Mandarin, BM, and Iban), uniting them in a shared mission to spread the love of Christ across Sarawak. This unique initiative not only fostered intergenerational and inter-congregational friendships but also strengthened teamwork and unity among participants. Teams ventured into various locations, including Sri Aman, Muman Betong, Kubal Betong, Sarikei, Sibu, and Kapit (8 hours drive), touching the lives of over 700 individuals in schools, hospitals, longhouses, and local churches.
Over the course of 2 days from October 12-13, 2024, the impact of BO4.0 was profound, both for the participants and the communities they served. For many first-time goers, the experience was eye-opening as they witnessed the hunger for spiritual connection and the warmth of love shared by the communities they visited. Local churches testified to life-changing moments, including healings, new believers coming to Christ, and the formation of beautiful friendships that transcended language, race, and cultural barriers. The mission’s success was a testament to the power of unity and the Holy Spirit’s work in bridging divides.
The event marked a significant milestone for Hope Kuching, paving the way for pioneering work in new areas and towns. The enthusiasm and dedication of the participants, coupled with overwhelming support from local churches, have set the stage for future outreach efforts. The mission not only blessed the communities but also deeply impacted the goers, reminding them of the joy and fulfillment that comes from serving others.
As we reflect on the success of BO4.0, we are filled with gratitude for the unity, love, and faith demonstrated by everyone involved. This mission has strengthened our resolve to continue reaching out to the lost, the broken, and the marginalized, bringing hope and transformation to every corner of Sarawak. We look forward to seeing how God will use this experience to ignite even greater passion for missions and to expand His kingdom in the years to come!
