It’s sometimes a little too easy to fall into a rut when it comes to church. The same camps, the same events… and before we know it, we slip into an autopilot state. So when Hope Seattle had their retreat last year at the same location, with the same theme and the same speaker, they chose not to do it the easy way. Because they believe that when we have a big God, we can make a big difference!
The idea was simple, to make the retreat a way for God to reveal something new to each and every person. As people from Wenatchee, Canada, California, Australia, and Chicago filled the campsite, the chapel was already rumbling with worship, ready to be sung, and with a God ready to move His people.
Mind… body and spirit
With the theme “Empowered Minds”, the retreat focused on how their brains react under certain challenges, including some creative varieties of brain games. Just as important as it is to empower our minds, Hope Seattle also focused on empowering the body and spirit. Each morning started with a church exercise, and every night ended with a spiritual time with God. The focus was on spiritual synapses, connecting the mind and spirit to work in a godly system and not just in a scientific way.
The Holy Spirit moved through their special guest speakers Ps Wilson, Ps Lai Ling and their daughter Deborah throughout the retreat, especially as they prayed over everybody. As they prophesied over people, with the worship echoing the will of God and the hearts of people, many saw visions, spoke in tongues, and felt His presence for the first time in a long time. It left the participants of the retreat feeling excited for what’s next to come, and we’re all sure to hear great things from them throughout this year!
A challenge
For no matter the place, the theme, or the people, our big God has BIG PLANS! Maybe it’s time for us to take a step of faith. Let’s challenge ourselves to go the extra mile this year. What are the needs in your local church that you can help build? Or if you are looking for a challenge that’s more at a personal level, maybe even try to participate in our 30 Days Evangelism Challenge. It’s time we break out of our ruts together and build new synapses!
