Our walk in Christ is built on us living in a community, a community that extends beyond our church. For as the body of Christ is one, it has many members. If one of the members suffers, we all suffer with it, but if one is honored, we all rejoice together (1 Corinthians 12:12-27).
Peru is a diverse country in terms of geography, ethnic groups, dialects, food, and more. Throughout their history, there have been many acts of violence and injustice, which has resulted in many families living in poverty and a sense of distrust. Let it be from the highlands or the jungles, there are always people in need. Amidst this are many churches, answering the call to share the Good News of salvation with the people of Peru.
This was the burden HIM Peru felt, a need to reach out to these families with a sign of hope that only Jesus can provide. However, they didn’t just stop at reaching out to these families, but also to strengthen the other members of the body of Christ in Peru. HIM Peru has been steadily growing, building relationships with brothers and sisters in Christ from other regions, working with those from other churches. They’ve been helping each other through the guidance of God’s wonderful Word, teaching all of them to accept each other with respect and appreciation.
Building the next generation
Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”
Matthew 19:14
This verse has been resonating deeply with HIM Peru. They understand the importance of ministering to the next generation of Peruvians. In fact, this is why they have been running educational programs for children from poor neighbourhoods. Beyond that, HIM Peru also has been equipping young leaders from other churches, building them up and discipling them just as Jesus taught. Most of these young leaders are now raised up to serve in their respective children ministries.
And the collaboration did not end there. HIM Peru invited these young leaders and their pastors during their church camp that took place in March 2026. With the theme “A God of Many Nations”, the camp became a symbol that shows how God’s church can be a refuge for those in need. Families from poorer neighborhoods like Ventanilla joined this camp, whose children participate in the educational programs HIM Peru provides.
A message for all
Given that there are people from so many churches and regions, it opened a path to share the message of a God of many nations, a God for all His people. The sharing leaned on biblical testimonies of how God, in His mercy, reached to people from different regions and nationalities who showed reverent fear of His authority. People like Rahab, the Canaanite woman; Ruth, the Moabite woman; the Samaritan woman and the Samaritans in Jesus’ time. The children also led a service during the camp. They shared from the testimonies of Philip approaching an Ethiopian and Peter approaching Cornelius to share the message of Jesus with the families who attended.
In addition to that, the camp also was a celebration of HIM Peru’s 22nd anniversary. Ps Simon and Ps Lai Eng joined them for this celebration, extending the fellowship with all members of the church, friends and family. Ps Simon shares with the people that one man can impact a generation, and one talent can influence a generation. The session then concluded with a prayer for the spiritual health of the children, youth and families in Peru as a nation.
Walking together, serving together
The fruits of the labour HIM Peru has been putting was evident throughout the camp. One of the most joyful evidence of this was the celebration of water baptism for five new members of the local church, including two teenagers aged 12 and 19. There was a tangible happiness in the air, as the whole church came together to welcome them into their new life in Christ, to walk together and serve together His Kingdom!
Wherever we are, we too can make a difference in our communities and nations. Our efforts do not need to be limited within the confines of our churches, but let’s reach out to help build other churches around us. Support the churches around you who share the same vision, and let’s be a church of the Kingdom!
HIM Peru extends their gratitude to all those who have been keeping them in prayer and supporting their ministries. The impact of those efforts are felt beyond HIM Peru, as they build a Kingdom for Christ in the nation of Peru!
